So What Is Adventures In The Unknown?
Hey, welcome to my first self-published tabletop role-playing game. I've worked on the teams of a number of games over the years, had a game published by a small press indie publisher (that's an affiliate link to the game on another site), and worked as a blogger and journalist in gaming, comics and pop culture spaces for the last couple of decades. After all of this, I decided it was time to try my hand at self-publishing a game.
As I mention on the main page of this game, Adventures In The Unknown came out of a conversation with a good friend a couple of years ago, where he said that there needed to be more RPGs about punching Nazis. I thought this was a good idea. So, when casting about for a system, I settled upon designing a game system that was an homage to a once popular "Frightfully Cheerful Roleplaying Game" that came out in the mid-nineteen eighties, that I was a fan of back in the day. I made some changes to the system and added some more contemporary game design ideas, like having a Session Zero in your game, and basically transformed the system into something I would play today.
A big part of why I made this a game inspired by the heroic pulps of the 30s and 40s was because I feel we need more heroes in the world, and in tabletop gaming, and we need heroes of all sorts of backgrounds, shapes and genders, who want to punch Nazis.
Adventures in the Unknown is a solid, complete game, but it is still a little rough around the edges (sort of like the pulps that inspired it), and I will hopefully sand down some of those rough edges while I get the game ready for a print version.
